16” large 19th century Italian hand painted Majolica charger or wall platter featuring the Renaissance painting and known as an Istoriato (history plate). This style of painting first occurred during the Italian Renaissance when artists took scenes from classical paintings and transferred them to the ceramic surface. This plate is typical of the style created by the workshops of Urbina or Pesaro in the 16th century. Genori, Italy mark 1850-1903.
