We are selling an antique 19th century transfereware and partially hand painted Austrian porcelain plate. The center of the plate is decorated with the image of a woman in elaborate dress and flowers in her hair. Inscribed is “Juliet,” and also inscribed is the title of Shakespeare’s play “Romeo and Juliet” which means the portrait is of Shakespeare’s character Juliet.  This is a multi-colored plate with a lovely red rim.  It has green and pink floral designs and scrolls. The center portrait is surrounded by a red scroll. Manufacturer’s Mark Imperial Crown China. Austria and a Green mark.  According to research this is not a manufacturer’s mark, but the mark of a decorator and importer, Bawo and Dotter, who decorated blank china in their studio in Fischern which was then in a region known as Bohemia now called Rybáře, Carlsbad in the Czech Republic. They also had an office in New York and a decorating plant in Limoges. They were founded c. 1883 and existed until 1914. The plate is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks.
