A very fine antique early nineteenth century English Regency Tortoiseshell tea caddy which dates to circa 1815. Its top is decorated with a sterling silver rectangular plaque and floral mother of pearl patterns and sterling silver borders. The tea caddy's top lid is dramatically chamfered or beveled at the edge. The caddy has a sarcophagus rectangular form, and its front is profusely inlaid with flowers and foliage .The sides of the caddy's top lid and bottom compartment are decorated with floral mother of pearl patterns. The interior is fitted with ivory borders and two lidded compartments and the caddy stands on the original ivory ball feet. It has the original working lock, with sterling silver escutcheon and key. The tea caddy is in excellent condition and is an exceptionally fine example of a Regency tea caddy.
