An antique 19th century Faux Tortoiseshell English Tea Caddie which dates to mid-1800s. The tea caddie is made of Birds Eye Maple wood and is enhanced with faux painting to create a blond tortoiseshell effect. Its hinged lid encloses dual tea compartments with original covers. The caddie’s bottom rests on elaborately engraved brass feet, each side is decorated with lion-face drop handles, and an ornate escutcheon with a top finial decorate its lid.
It is not often we find such a completely original Victorian tea caddy with its wonderful rich patina intact, and with surviving original decorative brass escutcheon and hinges.
