A very well painted Oil on canvas Portrait of an aristocratic or royal boy with his Dog. European. Possibly painted in the late 1700s. The costume and shoes seem to evoke the 1760s and after. This figure’s elaborate silk neck scarf and long robes and very fine shoes identify him as an aristocrat. His posture and his dog also point to his aristocratic bearing. Artists typically included background classical columns and velvet drapery in portraits of the high born to symbolize their elevated position in society. This artist’s handling of the boy’s facial features, flesh and hair are very skilled. Portrait is mounted in a painted frame. Small cracks in the paint. Unable to find signature. Artist unknown.
