We are offering for sale a very fine antique French gilt bronze mounted mahogany Empire bureau plat, early 19th Century. The desk has a rectangular top with two pull out trays, one on each side. Its top is covered by a burgundy gold-tooled inset leather writing surface and a very decorative gilt bronze border. The front frieze has a large central drawer flanked by pairs of side drawers with shaped corner brackets on each side where desk meets legs. The desk features finely cast ormolu mounts in the Classic Empire style including escutcheons and laurel wreaths, and has brass knobs. The desk is raised on four square section tapered legs that stand on square brass sabots with brass casters. Entire table veneer is exotic amboyna Burl wood and rosewood circles parquetry.
Desk is in a particularly good condition for its age.
